From the first ever set of North Stars jerseys, this style was worn in the preseason of 1967 and never again. It is the most unique style of North Stars jerseys that exist.
Bill Masterton is still the only NHL player to die from an on-ice injury. In memory of this, one of the NHL's major awards is given each year in his name to the player that most embodies the spirit of perseverance in hockey.
Masterton sustained his fatal injury in his 38th game of the North Stars inaugural season. No North Stars player wore the #19 after Masterton, and the the number was subsequently the first that the franchise would officially retire. This was done in 1987.
The green twin to this jersey was donated and permanently resides in the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame in Masterton's hometown of Winnipeg (jersey is pictured).
If we believe that the North Stars only wore two regular season sets of jerseys in 1967-68, and if we believe that the green jersey that Masterton was wearing when he sustained his fatal injury was disposed of at the hospital, that means that this is one of three surviving Masterton jerseys: this white, it's green counterpart, and the regular season white, which is owned by another local collector.
